Areas of practice

Dr. Mansukhani’s practice covers breast surgery and general surgery, with a foundation in surgical oncology. Each area below reflects her documented training and clinical practice.

Breast surgery

Breast surgery covers the operative treatment of both benign and cancerous breast conditions, from removing a fibroadenoma to performing a mastectomy. Most women referred for a breast opinion do not need an operation at all, and establishing that is part of the work.

Breast cancer surgery

Breast cancer surgery removes the cancer from the breast and establishes whether it has spread to the lymph nodes. The two main operations are breast conservation, removing the cancer and a margin of surrounding tissue, and mastectomy, removing the whole breast.

Oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery

Oncoplastic surgery combines cancer surgery with the techniques of plastic surgery, so that the tissue left behind is reshaped as part of the same operation. Reconstruction rebuilds a breast after mastectomy. Both aim at the same thing: removing the disease completely, without treating appearance as an afterthought.

Benign breast conditions

Most breast conditions are benign, not cancer. Fibroadenomas, cysts, breast pain and infections are common, and many need reassurance and monitoring rather than treatment. Establishing that a condition is benign is a finding, not an assumption.

Gynaecomastia

Gynaecomastia is enlargement of breast tissue in men. It is common, often benign, and has a range of causes from normal hormonal changes in adolescence to medication side effects. Assessment establishes the cause before any treatment is considered.

Thyroid and endocrine surgery

Thyroid surgery treats nodules, goitres and thyroid cancers. Most thyroid nodules are benign and many need monitoring rather than removal. Assessment combines examination, blood tests, ultrasound and, where indicated, a needle biopsy.

Laparoscopic surgery

Laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery is performed through several small incisions using a camera and fine instruments, rather than one large incision. For many abdominal operations it means less pain and a faster return to normal activity.

General surgery

General surgery covers common abdominal and soft tissue conditions, hernias, gallstones, appendicitis, and conditions of the anus and rectum. Many are treated with keyhole surgery and some need no operation at all.

Still not sure whether it needs looking at?

Most breast changes turn out to be benign. Working out which ones are is what an assessment is for, and the guides here explain what that involves before you go.
